Lima, OH – September 9, 2025 — Downtown Lima is undergoing a major transformation as construction crews work on several overlapping projects centered in the Town Square. From traffic pattern upgrades to a new veterans memorial and the revitalization of historic buildings, the area is being reshaped into a modern civic and cultural hub.
Downtown Streetscape Project: Phase 2 Begins
The City of Lima has officially launched Phase 2 of the Downtown Streetscape Project, focusing on Central Avenue from Elm Street to Wayne Street. This upgrade is designed to improve walkability, safety, and visual appeal in the core business district.
Key upgrades include:
One-lane, one-way traffic Bike lanes and reverse-angle parking Improved lighting and storm drainage New sidewalks, curb ramps, curb extensions, and signage
This phase follows earlier streetscape improvements and aligns with Lima’s broader goals to modernize its downtown infrastructure while supporting local businesses and pedestrian activity.
Veterans Memorial Grove: Honoring Service with Art and Reflection
Just steps from the Civic Center, the site for the upcoming Veterans Memorial Grove is taking shape. Demolition of the former plaza is complete, and construction is now underway for a new memorial space designed to honor Lima’s veterans and active service members.
The design includes:
A 9-foot engraved black granite monument An 8-foot steel flame centerpiece Six steel plaques, each representing a branch of the U.S. Armed Forces Redesigned landscaping and seating areas for peaceful reflection
According to city officials, the memorial is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
ArtSpace Lima Unveils Historic Façade
Nearby, another piece of downtown history is being brought back to life. Crews have begun renovating ArtSpace Lima’s newly acquired building, which was recently stripped of its aging metal façade to reveal its original 1869 brickfront.
This renovation is part of ArtSpace’s vision to expand its presence and provide a permanent, modern gallery space in a building that preserves its historic charm. The project reflects Lima’s effort to merge cultural investment with architectural preservation.
Community Impact and What’s Next
The combination of civic upgrades, memorials, and art redevelopment positions downtown Lima as both a cultural destination and a revitalized gathering place. These projects are expected to attract foot traffic, promote small business activity, and provide shared spaces that reflect the city’s evolving identity.
The City of Lima encourages residents to stay engaged with ongoing development plans. Construction timelines and traffic notices are available through official channels such as limaohio.gov and the City’s official Facebook page.
